Read Chris Alexanders books on his minimalist approach to design and you may understand the approach and methods that can be applied most anywhere...and Ghandi would be most proud with his approach too.

On the other side is Mies with his approach on the details where less was always more. Don't think the experts ever classified him as being a minimalist though. I don't believe he had any of his work constructed in India though....Chicago yes.
