I run a housing research institute - which also runs a hands-on workshop for inexperienced men and woman - who want to learn how to design (that's right - be their own architect), engineer and actually build their own homes.

In one case a participant was a periplegic - in an other case the participant's child was in a wheel chair. In this case, the participant fired the architect he had hired and then took the workshop and designed and built himself.

Its amazing that in both cases mentioned above - they came down to similar features in these homes built.
