There is no world-wide building code at this time, but the best U.S. source [which has some use in other countries] is the INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE. Go the the web site, www.iccsafe.org

There is the basic building code, plus a "family" of related codes which augment the building code with additional information.

You can purchase via ICC or other book outlets even amazon.com. You may also find copies in the larger local libraries. There are editions dated 2000, and 2003.
