I've never met Mr Stratas so I can only guess at his intentions, but I agree that his own posts demonstrate disrespect for the families. I also find his constant self-promotion to be distasteful.
There are obviously many constituencies to satisfy, but nobody should forget that for the families of the deceased the memorial site is a mass grave. If you don't understand this, you really shouldn't be involved in the process.
Mr Stratas, a word of advice. The cosmos has a strange way of dishing out reward and punishment. Imagine what will happen if you make stage 2 and the following quote appears in the NY Post
"As regards the victim family demands for zero redevelopment of the site from bedrock to infinity -- many people in authority have to listen politely to such emotional demands, but of course none of that will transpire. Now this week (2nd anniversary) those families are planning a site protest. Way to go, what a spectacle. Just remember that those are a minority and that many sensible people have split away from these irrational advocates, and are working with authorities for the best result in balance for all the competing factors that play into these decisions...."
New York politics is about as subtle as a baseball bat, and those "irrational advocates" (families of the dead) will come out swinging when they see this quote. I certainly wouldn't want to be you.
