Hi
No nothing of the kind, ----- I already at the start said that I like to share a few thoughts untill somone else ansvered. But your post somhow gave me the feeling that not just have a lot of people put a lot of thought and work into it , ------ then if you havn't been thru such waiting period maby you could profit from my personal view, I know that you are not the same and somtimes you even blame yourself not to have followed a tread after you turned in your suggestion, but I rather ansver one of the more dull points, the one about the waterfall.
You se the waterfall , a very small one , that is placed in front of the danish architects house never but once worked. To call it a waterfall is maby to much, but it's proberly somthing inbetween a fountain and a small waterfall from a very small artifisial lake with one feet of water at one side and zero feet of water the other side, but my point is it never worked but once , ------ I leved here all the time the house was here and never seen it work even it was planned gathering the water from these small lakes, bringing the water over an edge and "waterfall" it down a huge glass sheet into the building, where it shuld be pumped back out underground.
My comment was more general, as it cover my personal oppinion ,that for what suround the memorial to work, there must be a greater meaning to it, beside even I did _not_ participate while I find this shuld be an american contest, and from my personal oppinion the memorial must not reflect the wish of those left behind.
I understand your exitement and remember the few times I participated in contests, and know that even the time from you leave your work to the day the result is published is another challance and that will change you, making you better prepared for next time you participate a contest ,but as things develob and the very confusing things you hear, I am sorry to say that personaly I find this contest the wrong thing from the start -------- not that there was a contest but that there was a contest at the wrong time, or maby I shuld say that I think it would have been better, to either make the memorial decide the rest or make sure the rest was build and ready, so the ones contributing would acturly know the surroundings.
Now a lot of people who joined will be disapointed even they never think they had a chance, but joining this kind of contest, will not just occupy your mind, it will also force you to get things together in your mind, so winning or not you profit.
My other comments deal with the confusion you picture living in europ, please remember that you can decide for yourself, like I did, that the best will be if the intire site is transformed by american architects, maby you find this a rough statement, but living far from the site in another part of the world, you get the impression that the true drive must come from that same city. That a lot of what we seen and esp. how things change over night and then the week after, make you fear that america havn't realised that "once again you can be the man you want to be, once again you can be free" .
Personaly I find that a better "ansver" than a tiny tower changing size and meaning all the time, ------ the Memorial from my point of view, must be a very difficult structure to place and project ,but it wouldn't be if there was a common structural idear to the whole restructuring , as in that case both memorial and rebuild would profit from clear lines.
Hope I ansvered a few questions, ------- the thing about the waterfall was just a kind warning about arti. waterfalls, that never turn out as in nature, what went wrong in copenhagen is difficult to find out, but fact is that the wonder do not work.
