In the distant past, people dwell. And there's an art of dwelling.
They dwell in caves. They dwell near rivers and streams.
Dwelling is a continous process. It changes as people change. As long as the people live in the space, the dwelling continues to evolve.

Now, there is division of labour in industrial scale. People don't dwell anymore. They buy houses as a commodity, a mass-produced product. Once the houses are bought, they can only deterioate. Architects are those people who design this commodity.
