I sincerely apologize for my harangue
and self-aggrandizing remarks. Emotions got the better of me. I'm confident the jury will select the most fitting design,
and I look forward to the announcement of
the worthy finalists. As for the blatant electioneering remark, I hadn't really thought of it in that light, but I see what you're saying. The pontificating was uncalled for. And that pretend juror device was also less than clever. I simply got carried away and feel a bit foolish at this point. Live and learn, right? But to (briefly) sum up:

The theme of my presentation concept was Freedom: The Human Connection. It's
purpose was threefold:

* Recognition of victims and heroes in a non-hierarchical composition that boldly
connected the two footprints and clearly made them visible. My method of naming spoke to the random nature of terrorism. By listing those names in a unique way, I wanted to symbolize their connection prior to the attacks, as well as after.

* Individual recognition within the context of a national tragedy: Those
four airplanes resulted in 3,016 dead
(plus 6 from 1993), and that became the human connection on another level.

* 3,022 victims perished on American
soil. Each was the living and breathing embodiment of the blessings of freedom. And they lost that blessing. The atrocity of 9/11 went beyond the level of personal and national tragedy -Ultimately, acts of terrorism are attacks upon FREEDOM itself, which I believe was an even greater loss to those who survived.

Thus, my "harangue" for more historical significance conveyed at Ground Zero. Perhaps Libeskind's Wedge of Light, Liberty Wall, Park of Heroes, Freedom Tower, and slurry wall will be MORE than enough?
