I can't speak for others, but I entered the competition with the goal of influencing the decision making process, not winning the competition. Whoever wins this thing is in for a real miserable experience. Whatever they select, it will be deeply disliked by some faction or another. The designer will be the subject of intense scrutiny, especially if he or she expresses political views not 100% in line with the powers that be. Any good design will probably not be of the "America! We're the biggest! We're the best!" vein, but will have a more complex message. Complex is not popular in today's America. We want simple solutions and simple answers.

Good luck to whoever is the last person standing. They will need it.
