Your best shot at any job or firm is to show your complete self, and all aspects of your work-- including the ability to design, and to detail construction. It is important to be well-rounded, because if you show only limited skills, and in only one area, you are restricting yourself to a narrower range of jobs. Also, don't get the idea that you can walk in and get a "design" job right off-- most designers work up through the ranks or know someone big in the firm!
