I have on my library shelf a book entitled "A History of Latin American Art and Architecture" by Leopold Castedo translated and edited by Phyllis Freeman, Published by Frederick Praeger, c. 1969.
The final chapter of this book highlights the "Towers Without Function" by Mathias Goeritz in Mexico City (1957-58)- the picture reminds me of the World Trade Center's Twin Towers; the Central Administration Building, University City, Mexico City by Mario Pani and Enrique del Moral with its mural by David Alfaro Siqueiros and the mosaic murals by Juan O'Gorman; the Church of Santa Monica, Mexico City by Felix Candela with its hyperbolic parabolas (1966); the Church of Sao Francisco de Assis by Oscar Niemeyer in Pampulha, Brasil, with its undulating curved roof and its ceramic mural by Candido Portinari (1943); and the Cathedral of Brasilia, Brasil, by Niemeyer (1958).
These are fascinating architectural works from the mid-20th century.
