start with Rudolph Wittkower: 'Architectural Principles in the Age of Humanism', first published 1949, many editions since. The book contains discussion of renaissance architects' examination of the relationship of musical harmonies to physical proportions, stemming from "belief in the harmonic mathematical structure of all creation". This goes back to Plato and doubtless in other cultures as well.
