I regularly read architectural reviews in newspapers and magazines. When I travel I make either a written or mental list of places to see. This includes architecture. Sometimes I go specifically to see a building that has been featured in an article. I have a stack of photos and now numerous digital images of different views of buildings that have been published.
Without the magazines and newspapers (and Internet) I would not know that some of these buildings existed.
The quality of architectural reviews varies. Some articles give the reader a good understanding of the building. Soem articles give a false impression of the building. I have read some reviews and then gone to see the building and wondered what the author was thinking. Other reviews help to clarify what might otherwise be missed by the casual observer.
Columbus, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois, especially Oak Park, Illinois, USA, where one will see Frank Lloyd Wright houses, have excellent architectural tours that go along with the reviews.
