the fountaihead happens to have an architect as a protagonist, - but please, don't consider this book to have anything to do with architecture- ayn rand's school of objectivism (to which a certain alan greenspan used to subscribe) can be read more or less as communist whiplash effect, think the mccartthy era etc, terrified by the terror wrought in europe, what she's writing is an ode to individualism in a sort of ideal meritocracy. it's not a bad book, and an exciting read- i would suggest though 'Atlass Shrugged' a book the author considered the fountainhead a prequal to.
if you're looking for novel like arch. reading try some of the memoirs or autobiographies of various architects- i think there's one carlo scarpa did that's pretty good- these are often lightweight and even intimate- a lot more inspiring.
