Don't you have to consider weather durability and safety too? What about a flexible all weather material like hard rubber? At least if they fall off, they'll bounce.
My son is a slate boarder who broke a lot of bones landing on a hard surface. Personally, from a parent's point of view, I'd like to see you design a softer, healthier surface.
