i think it does pretty well, as it is not meant to be a city, it is just a physical example meant to show how a city could work in theory.
a very clear indication of its sucess is the high degree of contrast that exists between cordes lakes which is the closest town with a population of 1000 and arcosanti which has a population of only 100 people. Cordes lakes is usually deserted after 8:00, it has no activities and most people would rather be some place else. where as arcosanti is usuaully bustling with life, exhibitions, concerts, etc.
