Posted by K. on March 05, 2004 at 11:25:47:Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this question, but here goes:
I didn't grow up rearranging my room, or asking my parents if I could
redecorate our house, and I hadn't even realized how much I liked
design/aesthetics until I started dabbling in web design a few years
ago. But lately, I've been finding myself looking through magazines
like architectural digest and very much enjoying the beauty and art of
the interiors. And although I can't say that I have a PASSION for it,
I have begun to look at a career in interior design. I have some
questions about this career, that I hope some of you designers can
answer.1) What would be the best way to find out if I would enjoy this
career? I imagine shadowing an interior designer for a day would be
best?2) There's a difference between admiring interiors, and creating them
yourself. How do I know if I'm cut out to be an interior designer, if I have the talent/creativity for it?3) I'm most interested in the decorating aspect of interior design,
and not as much in the building codes, lots of details, etc. How much
of the job is design, and how much is the other 'stuff'?4) Is interior design subject to the economic fluctuations that
architecture is?Thank you in advance!
