I heard Cornell is building a brand new department building. . . and yea, sure, learning how to practice being an architect in college may be important but think about it, which is more fun? Learning theoretical things or learning things on the practical side? I believe college is a good way for people to expand their creativity and understanding architecture and that should be the main purpose of education when acquiring an architectural degree. There are many more years anyways to learn the practical side later on, so why not waste those precious years of college on things that you'll learn later? I mean, yea, Cornell is very theoretical based but doesn't mean that they completely exclude the practical side of things.
