Amy,rather late though,but i guess responses to your question are still very much welcome.

Traces' persperctive was quite objective.But i'll add that in
addition to an aesthetically appealling design,'functionality'
in designs should also be considered in terms of to what extent
such designs have altered 'users'socio/psychological patterns
of life over long periods.
That's really the essence of 'feedback systems'in public housing
schemes especially.
