surely for Scotland the introduction of a Scottish graphic, to help begin to erase the imposed Colonial graphic, is just a matter of beginning - or more accurately continuing - the process.

Scotland's identity is still strong, and only partially masked by outside imposition. A single building - even if it is meant to be a parliament - is still only a single building.

what is there to stop Scottish architects, designers and planners from seeking to evolve the visual and urban identity of Scotland's new persona ?

with Scotland's history in these fields, it would be hard to believe that there would be a lack of ability. if the country needs help, look to your historic friends in France - or countries which have grown into successful and proud nations away from British colonial paternalism, like Canada or Australia. (there is even a rumour that people in Dublin were not as grateful for the help and assistance that the British so kindly gave them over several centuries as the English would like you to believe - these ingrates even have their own architectural institute, the RIAI).
