IT is possible that the Taj Mahal was built on a site sacred to Hindus, or from the demolished remains of an older temple or palace, but it was definitely constructed (or re-constructed if you will) during the Mughal rule. How does one explain the Sarcenic style which heavily influenced by Persian construction, as well as pietra dura, the stone inlay work influenced by Italian techniques? It is true that the Sultans and Mughals demolished many hindu sacred monuments and used the debris in their construction, but the Taj Mahal was constructed with new ideas and designs across from the river visible from the Agra Fort. This is my opinion
