So if no-one really mourns them were they really Great Buildings?

Millions mourn them. As an editor of ArchitectureWeek and GreatBuildings.com, I've already received several poigniant rememberances of the buildings from diverse people.

Remember that we are in shock, we are still searching for survivors despite fading hope, we are only at the first beginnings of long, long mourning for our lost friends, not even yet listed.

It took many years for New Yorkers to learn to love the austere cuboid monoliths that dominated their southward skyline, obligatory landmarks first, accepted marks of place much later.

Pace, and patience.
