I am also curious about the "hinge" concept. I'm not an engineer but it seems that this and future attacks on buildings essentially involve " injecting' explosive material into a building which during ignition probably pressurizes the structure thus separating walls from floors to some degree. However, even if this were prevented by the "hinge pin" concept, wouldn't the ensueing severe fire melt any hinge? Aren't we forced inevitably toward redundancies of the kind earthquake and hurricane retrofitting address ? Perhaps there is a psychological axiom here, like: The more esthetic virtuosity in the design, the more ugly redundancy needed in the engineering .
