the first figure that I heard mentioned in a radio broadcast on the 11th. was that over 130,000 people used the buildings in a day - this was said by the broadcaster (on the BBC) in a very quiet and sombre voice. It is a miracle that the figure killed was not much higher than 6000 - a miracle helped by the buildings themselves and the emergency services.

if I interpet Manuel correctly, what he is talking about are aspects of the design which can really only be seen after a tragedy. Taking any design further than it has been before involves an element of risk. Those risks have only become apparent under the equivalent of "testing to destruction". In other words, what are seen as faults in the design in retropect can be used to improve future buildings to make them even safer. (Anyway, Manuel is able to speak for himself - but that is what I think that he means).

Good to read positive and respectful suggestions for the site like your's and Michael Norland's.
