What are the possibilities of using fire safety chutes to bypass only the floors involved in the fires. Once below the fire level people could return to the building interior and fire escape stairs could be used. Could fire escape "lifeboats" be designed to follow tracks similar to wall-walking window washing scaffolding? Could alternate fire-resistant tubes be designed as part of the structural framework using open steel tubes as opposed to closed steel framework/support columns. Could "lifeboats" double as office furniture to be placed into service in case of fire?

Why not equip every skyscraper with mandatory cables that could be attached at the top floors or any of several designated intermediate floors using the cable car concept. Such cables could attach to anchors located farther down the street in the same manner that fire hoses are attached to fire hydrants. Cables could lead away from the building at an angle so that the cable car lifeboats would be directed away from the fire and smoke. Didn't I see this idea somewhere years ago, maybe around the time of the Towering Inferno movie?

Who has other ideas for fire escape alternatives?
