I read about a proposal years ago to build pneumatic tubes with automobile-size capsules for people transportation. This was to be an inter-city type of transportation. Collisions were to be prevented by the compressed air factor. Removal of air from the destination terminal while pumping air in at the origin provided the means of locomotion.

Think of the Alaskan pipeline constructed out of clear plastic. Instead of transporting crude oil we could transport cars inside capsules. Anyone remember the autotrain that ran from Florida to Washington, D.C., USA?

Just think, you could take your drafting board along and work while you travelled.

Think about it. Collisions would be eliminated. Efficiency would be gained. No truck traffic. Transportation or cargo would be in the same size standardized modules. These cargo modules would be loaded on trucks near their final destination.

We could also build rail transportation, like roller coaster technology. Individual cars could be designed to attach to the monorail or birail to cut down on friction. Spacers could be attached to prevent collisions. Cars could be parked more efficiently inside garages next to buildings. Did you ever see some of those trucks on the railroad tracks with their train wheels?

The pneumatic tubes or rails could follow the same interstate or local highways now in use. They could be overhead or underground or a combination. Think New York subways, Chicago Els, BART (San Francisco), Washington, D.C., and so on.

Anyone have any good designs for transportation terminals?
