Yes, that is an interesting question.
My father has come up with many designs but never had the time or patience to secure a patent. He seems to just want to move on to the next project.
My grandfather on my mother's side is the one that made the wheelchair "go" for my brother Stevie. After reading your last post I remembered a "cart" that he also made for a parade in East Texas years ago. It, the body and seat, was made of wood. The seat was recessed. He used a lawn mower motor too. And he used two old bicycles, one on each side. I was very small but I remember it went too fast for us to be able to play on it!
Aren't those fathers and grandfathers WONDERFUL?! I make metal art and when I am able I would like to make a "sculpture" (welding large pieces of steel together)and dedicate it to them. I've been thinking I will call it "Granpa's Hands". I have missed that Pa Pa of mine soooooooo and I remember his rough old hands and dark leathery (from the sun) looking arms. I think of all the thankless work they did, like you said...they saw a need and filled it. I get all mushy and misty thinking about it because today's kids are growing up so differenly. Few get that kind of quality time out in the work shop any more. Every chance you get, take your GRANDDAUGHTER to help build and create and fix things, too. Hey?
