Keen insight, Jacques. In another post, higher up, regarding Fuller, the focus was on disenchantment with technology--at least among some cultural critics today (if not my kids, a son and daughter who are definitely into gadgets). Your added perception is how infatuation with high-tech gadgetry can supplant "common sense" or whatever we want to call a deeper intuition and evaluation of what is important to us.

You are right, that the fundamental problem of teaching is getting students to unlearn what they suppose to be self-evident. Basically, it's the old Socratic business of asking questions that others don't think need (or ought) to be asked. Of course, this can lead to the hemlock, eh :-)?
