In addition to John's list of sensitivities I would add wind and ambient temperature (noted elsewhere here). On a recent trip on the Interstate with cruise control set, I noted that my MPG climbed nicely for some time, and then dropped steadily. Then I realized that the outside temperature had been dropping and that the trees were waving a bit. I wonder if it's as sensitive to a tailwind!

I'd like to know what kind of cruising speed John and others use to get the good highway mileage.
