Perhaps a more practical approach would be to check with the city building department that was responsible for supervising buildings and codes when your house was built. They may have specific records, although they might be hard to get to.
Other thoughts would be your local reference librarian, who should know who knows what and where to find it in your community, and the local historical society, if there is one, who may have similar information going farther back.
The property ownership records could provide leads to people who might know who the builder was - like the original owner...
