Yes, I skipped over a step - skipping over part of the weirdness of these imported non-solids - and a rather messy step, at that! Sorry for the confusion.
The good news is the problem is better defined now, and we're putting together a couple of different things something to streamline the process. With luck you'll hear about it in the next day or two.
