When you are "texture mapping" you can use both the "slide" adjustment or the "size" set point to set the scale. In fact, when you use the "slide" adjustment with a texture image, the "size" reference will reflect the change that you have made. This makes it easy to use that same texture at the same scale on a separate item.
Unfortunately, when you are using internal "shaders", you can only use the "slide" adjustment. Whick in many cases is just fine. However, it's a little harder to duplicate the same scale on a separated object.
If the model is not dialed in closer to the proper scale, as discussed previously, you won't be able to scale shaders, like brick, down enough.
