To duplicate an object in the exact same spot as the original:
Duplicate Linear (Command Shift D on the Mac).
Set the number of objects to two.
Set the displacement and elevation parameters to zero.
If you would like to then nudge the duplicate a specified amount, first set the Snap Grid spacing to the desired amount (Command ' or double-click the Grid Snap tool to access).
Select the duplicate and then nudge it with the arrow keys.
To easily rotate an object:
Select the object.
With the Object Info pallete open, change the Location Angle to the desired number of degrees. Hit Return.
