Odile indicates the dxf solution (4.03) of being able to select objects (as opposed to just faces) will be out shortly, too, as it is in final testing now. Sounds like they have been very responsive to an issue brought forth by user's requests and for that they should be commended!
Thanks to all who "nudged" them to fix it (them)...
