Dear Jerud,
2D objects created in DesignWorkshop do not have any surfaces. They are just a series of line segments until you extrude the object into 3D.
When DXF models are imported the 2D objects are given surfaces because there is no support for solid objects in the DXF format. As a result 2D objects must have surfaces or the entire model would be invisible.
To make a zero thickness object show up in DesignWorkshop you could extrude it and then set the thickness to zero. To be more realistic set the thickness to a very small, but non-zero number. Nothing in the real world has zero thickness.
Best wishes,
Mike Wheeler
