Is there currently a way to enable hardware T&L acceleration for 3D cards while using Design Workshop, on a Windows machine? Is that one of the functions of Quesa?

In theory, there is a way to get hardware acceleration working for DesignWorkshop Lights and Textures rendering on Windows using QuickDraw 3D 1.6, with components provided by Apple. Frankly, we've never been able to get it working properly on our Windows configurations here at Artifice. If anyone out there has a better experience, there are probably quite a few people who'd like to hear about it!

And yes, using Quesa as a replacement for QuickDraw 3D will directly address this problem. Quesa supports OpenGL real-time rendering with excellent rendering speed.

Artifice expects DesignWorkshop to ship with Quesa sometime late this summer.

Cheers,

K
