Art*lantis does sell additional shaders (textures) on a several CD set. In fact they just recently released two additional CD collections. You can see them all at:

The original 7 CD collection was around the $500 mark you mentioned. I'm not sure where the prices are today, however, so you should check with a distributor. I think Artifice is an Art*lantis distributor, so they may be able to give you a quotation.

I believe that the scaling issue with Art*lantis was due to a problem with importing 3DMF and DXF files. That issue has been solved, however, and I think they scale properly now.

You can render out very large images with Art*lantis. I'm not sure that there is a maximum. It has no problem rendering out 5,000 pixel wide images. I'm not familiar enough with what the animation sizes are. You may be thinking of their review window size; they now have a 640 X 480 review window. Check out their web site for a demo and/or other details.
