Dear 'Skiox',
Thanks for your interesting question about DesignWorkshop Pro and LightWorks PRO 6.5. I'd like to give you a serious answer.
DesignWorkshop Pro uses LightWorks 3D rendering technology for one-click imaging with colored lights, textures, and shadows.
The internal interface to the LightWorks modules is the open QuickDrw 3D/Quesa standard for plug-in renderers.
For advanced rendering including optical reflections and parametric textures, we coordinate closely with Art*lantis from Abvent (note for instance some current special offers).
For the highest level of rendering, capable of photometrically accurate lighting simulation with diffuse sources, sky models, reflection and refraction, parametric textures, object instancing, etc., we support Radiance in general, and RenderCity in particular.
LightWork Design has continued to improve their LightWorks technology, including increasing levels of ray tracing and radiosity hybrids approaching the capaibilities of Radiance. Unfortunately, LightWork Design has not chosen to continue to support the open Quesa renderer standard during the last year or more. One result of that focus on a proprietary internal interface is an increase in both the costs and risks of LightWorks their technology.
Artifice continues to prioritize our engineering investment in open standards, in the rendering area especially, and so we are If a specific project called for LightWorks PRO integration, it is certainly something we would consider. But economics being what they are, outside of a specific requirement, we'll continue to focus on the most cost-effective and predictable solutions for our clients using DesignWorkshop Professional.
Best wishes,
Kevin Matthews
