What is involved in conversion of 2D Autocad drawings to 3D?

Use 3DS MAX. Save Drawings as cleaned DXF (only shells of walls in contigous lines in single layer) and import into MAX. Extrude the shape and make walls solid (if so needed).

No need to use 3DS Max -- that is just one software option among many. For instance, following the same basic process works with DesignWorkshop, too.

cheers,

Alex
