I agree that this would be a great feature. What I do now (roughly, and with uneven success) is select a wall, duplicate it, reduce the thickness of the duplicate greatly, move it to be directly adjacent to the original, then change its texture. That is, I'm basically creating a veneer, like wallpaper or paneling.

DW could have a feature called Veneer that would do this in one operation, perhaps prompting for which side of the wall to place the veneer object on. It would leave the new veneer selected (not the wall), so that the user could then easily change the color/texture. And naturally, all openings (for windows, doors) would be duplicated in the veneer.

There'd be a new global setting for veneer thickness, which would default to, say, 5% of the thickness of the wall.

Spec it, code it, ship it! :-)
