well, if you were actually going to buy a LEGIT copy of something, then the obvious choice would be max, since it's much more affordable.
if you're just going to pirate the software, then what difference does it make? use which ever one runs better. all of those programs have capabilities that far exceed the needs or abilities of 99.99% of architects or architecture students.
the particularities of each program aren't going to make much difference to you until you know what you're doing.
