Maya is great if you are willing to spend the rest
of your life learning it.. I would not believe everything
you read, most studios don't use Maya in house, they write
their own software.. The only reason they might use Maya is
to bring new blood in, then they train them on
their inhouse software, and the new blood can never leave..
