In Run Type msconfig, last tab on the right hand side (Startup) I belive. Stop dw.exe from starting up, then do a search for dw.exe and delete. Go into regedit, search for dw.exe and delete all keys pertaining to that paticular file. Restart system and dw.exe should be gone.
Please note that this suggestion only applies to the diagnostic tool - DW.exe - included with some Microsoft operating systems.
This file is entirely different from the the main executable file of DesignWorkshop®, which predates the Microsoft file by years, and is also named DW.exe.
DesignWorkshop users should take care not to inadvertently remove the DesignWorkshop executable. The two exectuables should be pretty easy to tell apart.
The DesignWorkshop executable is normally located in your computer's Program Files folder, in a folder containing the name DesignWorkshop.
The exact folder name depends on which DesignWorkshop product level - Lite, Classic or Professional - you're using.
The DesignWorkshop executable file should also have an icon similar to this one:
![]()
