Each time you open a saved .dw model file, DesignWorkshop recalculates the default Overview so that you can see all the objects in the model file.
This is normally a very convenient feature, as it allows your default viewpoint to grow as your model grows.
When an object is moved (usually inadvertently) very far away from the other objects in your model, the feature I described will cause the initial overview to be recalculated to include this distant object. This will only happen when you open the saved model file.
Usually, the objects are so small, in relation to the distance between them that they appear as small dots on screen or not at all. In less extreme cases, you might still see the objects clearly, but they'll appear to be smaller because they're much further away.
The solution is to locate the distant object(s) and move it/them back to a more acceptable position. Then, save the file, close and open it again.
If you send the model file as an attachment to an email addressed to support@artifice.com, we will be glad to fix the file for you.
Alternatively you can fix them yourself by switching to a Plan view, zooming out to 50%, and using the Select All command. Chances are you will see two or more selection handles. Zoom in to one of these until you can see what it is. It may be your model, or it may be a random distant object. If it is the former zoom out and zoom in to the other. If it is a random object delete it.
Next, save your model. Then, close and reopen it. This will restore the view you expect.
Our online file Tune-up Machine can detect and correct very extreme instances of this issue. The Tune-up Machine can also fix a variety other file problems. So, it's a good resource to know about, in general.
Once at the Tune-up machine, just follow these steps:.
1) Click on the Browse... button.
2) Select the file on your hard drive you wish to repair.
3) Finally, click the Submit Query button.
Your file will be uploaded to the tune-up machine on our server and checked for standard file errors. If any errors are found, you will be presented with the option of repairing the file and/or sending the file to Artifice support for checking.
