I'm in the process of designing a great room...actually a combining of 2 rooms, 13x21 ft each. In the atic space above these rooms there is a "fink" style of trusses. I wish to slide 2x12 lumber in beside the existing trusses following the roof line, then do a 2x8 collar tie across at about 6ft above the existing ceiling, and cut out all existing trussing below that level. My existing roof is quite steep, about a 38 degree slope or 9.7/12 (I think). The existing trusses are on 24" centers. So, my question is: Am I ok staying on 24" centers with my new construction. Exterior walls are 2x6 and 16" centers. My final room will be 21x27 with a 14 foot ceiling.
Thanx,
Steve
