Does anyone have suggestions on an easy to use structural calc.. program for the Mac? I don't need to do frame analysis or anything to complicated. Beam loading, joist and rafter sizing primarily.
It would be nice to get results for several options. Solid lumber, GLB's, LVL's, etc.
Thanks in advance.

We use MaxBeam by ArchForms, Ltd.
Runs as an Excel spreadsheet.

Andy;
I tried that and MaxBeam. No results were returned.

I've had no luck any of the suggestions either. I went to Dr. Beams website, www.drsoftware-home.com/whatsNew.html. I asked about OSX and have not gotten back a reply.
Is it true that there is not a beam design program that runs on OSX? _________________ Sustainable, Solar Ultra-Cool Homes. . Why not? |

Rod, I've used 2 great little structural programs for over 10 years. They are simplespan and backspan. They are strickly post and beam type programs. They can calculate sawn lumber, microlams and steel and user defined beams. They work great up to system 9.1 but not beyond. I have a Quadra 630 set up just to run these programs. I believe you can still purchase them from www.compuneering.com. For footings I use a nice little program called Static Footing. It will run under Classic on system 10.3.3. This was made by Intuitec and I don't know if it's still available.

Yeah,...I agree w/ Mike.
I've been using Simplespan for years as well,...
Unfortunatey,...The built in strength values for LVL beams are not really up to date,...I know, I know, you can put new values in, (but every time?)
That gets old really fast,...so,... Just oversize the stuff :0
and have an LVL structural guy look 'em over before you get ahead of yourself.
You know what though?,...It Simplespan still runs in OS X within/under OS 9? Go figure?,
I bet not for long though?, So let me know oif you guys find anything as nice as "it" but for OS X
That would be real nice.

I am trying to run an engineering program called Simple Span. It is from an old Mac Classic computer
from 1991. Do you know if it will run on OS 9? It was a nice simple program, easy to use for calculating structural loads. Any information would be helpful.
Thank you,

Will it run on Mac OS 9? Thanks for your help. mhornrentalres (at) mcn (dot) net |
