    |
|
| I am a fantastic with CAD on IBM, but I just started working for a MAC person. She has VectorWorks, and I am having so much trouble learning it! Is there anyone who knows if the newer versions of VectorWorks (newer than 8.5) are more similar to CAD? Does anyone have any suggestions (other than: "Quit your job!")?? Thanks. |

CAD is a generic term. Stands for Computer-Aided Design, or Computer-Aided Drafting.
Vectorworks IS a brand of CAD software. AutoCAD is also a brand of CAD software.
So, please be more specific in your question! |

| Sorry, I know it's a generic term, but I'm so accustomed to just saying CAD. It's AutoCAD that I am good at, and VectorWorks on Mac is what I'm trying to use now. Thanks. |

Hmmm...seeing as how this entire site is almost 100% Mac based is there any wonder?? I am trying to remember the last time I saw a company help someone with a problem with another competing. I wonder if VW will help some to switch to PowerCADD full time. Hmm.. I doubt it. |

FYI, recent site-wide stats show about 70% of visitor traffic identified as Windows browsing and about 10% as Macintosh browsing. (The rest being from other and unidentified browsers, and various bots and spiders.)
The servers happen to run pretty generic (non-Apple) Unix, on Intel-based CPUs.
One forum here is specifically, and proudly, for a Mac-only software application (PowerCADD). The other ten forums are either for cross-platform software (DesignWorkshop, Open 3D CAD), or are not particularly about computer-related stuff at all (Architecture Forum, Architecture Students Forum, Home Design Forum, the Marketplace and Community forums).
We are explicitly open and welcoming to users of all personal computing platforms. The official perspective of this site, for what it's worth, is that computing technology, for most people, is a means to various ends, like design, analysis, presentation, communication.
BTW, most of us got tired of platform wars a few years back and most of us still are. |

That's cool but please remind lavardera as well. I have no problem with different platforms. Please show where I was throwing off on a single platform. It's good to have choices(either platforms or applications), it makes the developers work harder. Cheers |
