OK. Your project requires Architectural Signage. Signs ranging from the Corporate Logo behind the reception desk or in an elevator lobby, fire evac signs, room door signs, secretarial desk or cubicle nameplates, regulatory signs, etc. and it's not part of your discipline. What do you do?

I gave this scenario because I am looking to expand my business in an area that I am the most competent at - Architectural Signs and Sign Design.

Most of the work we do comes from Contractors hired by the Architect to build out offices. In the various buildings that I visit to do work, I get to see other companies with signs that were poorly designed, manufactured and installed. It bothers me that the brand identification does nothing to enhance the architectural details of the space. For example, a Brass letter sign in the reception area where all the hardware (door handles, light fixtures, furniture, ceiling grids) is Stainless Steel or Aluminum.

Another thing that bothers me is that (in 85% of the cases) the lighting fixtures were improp poorly (improperly) placed in the overhead area behind the reception desk. Spots are used instead of washes of light. Try taking a picture of the sign and you will see three big conical hotspots of light.

I have worked directly with Architects through their contractors only when the client demanded that the signage was of utmost importance. One case was for Pepsico (Pepsi). They want an almost impossible type of identification which I successfully accomplished. the outcome was so successful that the architect and the contractor asked me for photos of our work in progress so that they could showcase it in future presentations.

So my question is: How do I get to you FIRST?

Do I advertise as a consultant or a sign company. WHERE do you look for someone like me? Do you look for someone like me?
