I have seen quite a few cement floors in new residental construction, mostly where the construction is of the polystyrene form style, the PS is both the wall insulation, inside and outside and the form. The PS form stays in place, and radiant floors are the norm. The cement floors are typically colored with approved dyes, and then sealed. They are low mainenance, warm in the winter and look great. The correct sealer would be a product that is approved by the concrete industry, and you should be able to get advice and find it at a local supplier. Also concrete counter tops are hot.
