| I finally switched to OS X 10.5 a couple of months ago. I guess I am not an early adopter. I just wanted to make sure that I'd maintain my productivity prior to making the switch. As it was, the only application that broke with 10.5 was Acrobat Pro. Since I hear that Apple might be releasing Snow Leopard in January, I'd encourage ES to do what they can to ensure a smooth transition. |

If I may ask which version of Acrobat Pro and how was it broken? |

I had Acrobat Pro 7. It just didn't work (at all) -- it couldn't launch. There was no way to resurrect it or work around it (other than using other applications, like Apple's built in PDF printer). Acrobat Pro 9 works fine. |

Thanks
Now I can tell someone they MUST upgrade Adobe if they want to use Leopard or need to buy a new CAD station.

Yeah, the need to upgrade Acrobat Pro caught me by surprise. It cost $160 to upgrade... |

I have not had a problem using Apple's pdf printer. To me it seems direct, not a workaround. I don't have acrobat, and I cringe when I have to open "Reader" for some purpose. So slow.
I use freeware to merge pdfs at the moment, and I don't have a software for splitting them, so there's that to deal with perhaps. _________________ Peter B |

You can merge and delete in preview I believe...
Same here, I avoid Acrobat at all costs.. _________________ www.shouldbefree.net |

I'd like to but don't know how. With pdfMergeX you can merge and arrange pages. It's a not a slick program but works. Probably some other better ones out there. _________________ Peter B |

I don't think so (although I am not running 10.5.x).
You need to use Acrobat Professional or some of the various utilities out there that will do so.

You can add pages in Preview (in OS 10.5 at least) by dragging a PDF file icon to the sidebar of an open PDF file. You can arrange the order by dragging within the sidebar. You can also rotate the page(s).
You can also remove pages. |

Dang... I didn't realize that you could do any of this! I guess I could have saved the bucks on the Acrobat Pro upgrade...
One thing that I do use Acrobat Pro for is reducing file size. Some of the PDF's that my wife makes for a newsletter using Apple's pdf printer are over 5 mb. With Acrobat Pro, I can reduce them to less than 2 mb... |

In V3.09 (10.4.x) it appears you can rotate all images but not just a single one like you can with Acrobat Pro. Also, I did not find a way to reorder your pages and I tried dragging them in the sidebar and trying to find a command in the menu bar. To me this appears to be a 10.5.x feature upgrade. I agree Acrobat Pro is slow and clumsy but it appears to have features that are necessary if you need to do pdf editing. I know there are other utilities around that likely serve as a good substitute but I have not used them. PDF Pen Pro is one my buddy uses and he likes it a lot.
