| I am using 10.4.3 with PowerCadd 6 on a new iMac G5; none of the constraints are working. Holding down SHIFT key when moving an object doesn't constrain the object along the x or y axis. Also, snaps don't work. There have been other peculiarities but these are the most prominent. Anyone else experienced this problem? Any fixes? Mike C. didn't have any idea. |

I haven't had the ones you describe. Sounds like a system problem, you might have to reinstall. I saw some unusual behaviour with 10.4.3 early on and reinstalled, none since.
I assume you have repaired permissions and tried deselecting and reseting all keyboard and snap settings (to force the system and PowerCADD to reset preferences). If you are using a third party keyboard it might be a software problem. _________________ David Mousley

I am guessing that something in the commands file is intercepting the keyboard.
Check the file. Better, drag it out and let PC make a new one.
Look in //Library/Preferences/Powercadd

[ps: ALWAYS backup the command file and the pref file...]. |

| Thanks all. Doing a clean re-install did the trick. Not quite sure why a brand new G5 with pre-installed system had such difficulties but there you have it. |

From my experience, the symptoms you describe are the result of a corrupt Defaults file.

ALWAYS keep a backup of your defaults file and key commands.
I keep it in a folder in my Powercadd folder.
It's suprising how often this is used. Much less in X, to be sure, but still, there is far too much time invested in this stuff than I am willing to toss.
A simple way to do this is to make an alias of the Powercadd folder [the one in Prefs] and put that alias in you Powercadd folder [the one that lives in apps]. Then, you can option-drag in both directions.

My Mac dealer has run into the problem of bad system installs on a few new Macs. Running permission repairs didn't fix them, he had to reinstall OSX. Why this happens we don't new.
You should always run permissions repair after an OSX install, new or updated. The optimization process at the end of an OSX install is supposed to be permissions repairs. I've found that it can't be relied on, I almost always find when I run permissions repairs with Disk Utility that something has been missed. Messages "We are using . . . " are status reports that can be ignored. _________________ David Mousley
